About Amanda Gill "Mamma ICD"

Years Living With T1D:
33 years

What Is Your Greatest Accomplishment Or Proudest Moment?
Travel is my biggest passion and I’ve explored nearly 60 countries but, through my involvement with ICD, I’ve discovered a love for the outdoors and hiking. I’m extremely proud to have reached the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro and completed the West Coast Trail on ICD’s rainiest year ever.

Do You Have A Connection With Type 1 Diabetes?
I’ve been living with Type 1 Diabetes for 33 years. Over these years, I’ve seen dramatic changes and improvements to diabetes management and technology. I’ve had some challenges with my diabetes but those challenges have only made me more determined to lead a healthy and active life with diabetes.

Why Did You Choose ICD To Fundraise For?
I’ve been involved with ICD events for many years and all the incredible people I have met through ICD have become a second family to me. We’re a small community but our broken pancreases connect us. It’s amazing to see the motivation ICD’s programs bring to T1s who may be struggling with this lifelong diagnosis. I’ve seen it firsthand that having the opportunity to take part in ICD programs and spend time with others who live with diabetes motivates T1Ds of all ages to take control of our diabetes and lead healthy and active lives.

What Does Your Donor’s Contribution And Support Mean To You?
The motivation, education and encouragement that ICD events bring to participants can’t be found anywhere else. Emails and texts I’ve received from participants and parents after programs are proof of that and then improved control is even more proof. Sadly, it’s not always financially feasible for T1s to take part. Your contribution will help ICD programs be possible for more people and help them to live healthy and active lives with Type 1 Diabetes.

DISCLAIMER: I will be funding my Assiniboine Extreme Adventure myself but your support will help other diabetics take part in programs.
